Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Interviews:

Anthony

In talking with Anthony, he told me that he doesn’t really have a problem with parking on campus. He told me that for the most part he doesn’t really move his car that much during the school year except to go home. He usually tries to tag along with other people when he goes places that way avoiding having to move his car. He said that he has always been able to find a spot in the lot he wants coming back to school from weekends at home. He said he probably wouldn’t use a parking app just because he wouldn’t want to waste his time when he knows he’s most likely going to get a spot where he wants.

Jacob

In talking with Jacob, he told me that he does sometimes have problems with parking on campus. He told me that most of the time when he goes shopping he has a hard time finding a spot. He told me that he usually has to circle around the lot a couple of times to get a spot near his house. When I asked him whether or not he would use a parking app he said that he was unsure. Most of the time he can just find a spot if he waits long enough.

Cade

In talking with Cade, he told me that he always just goes to a lot that he knows is going to have spots available. He avoids the lots right next to his house just because they always seem so full. He told me that he does have to walk a little extra farther but that he doesn’t mind it that much because most of the time when he drives it is at night when it is cooler.

Dominika

In talking with Dominika, she said that she does have problems commuting to campus and thinks that a parking app would be useful. She was just a little concerned that if everyone knew the spots available that there would be a mad rush for the last spot. She said if there was only one spot left in a good lot then that might make problems with lots of people trying to get it.

Matthew

In talking with Matthew, he said that where he lives on campus doesn’t really have problems with parking because there is an abundance of spots available. He told me that he wouldn’t have use for an app because there is usually plenty of parking available. He said that the only times he has problems with parking is if there are special events or activities going on but at that point an app wouldn’t really have any use because everyone is having issues with parking.

Inside the Boundary
Outside the Boundary
Who is in: Those on campus that live in areas that either have very little parking available for on campus students or where many students live. Also in is students who commute to campus at high traffic times and have trouble finding parking.
Who is Not: Those on campus students that live around a large amount of parking or don’t move their cars enough to make having a parking app worth it. Also students who commute to campus at non high traffic times and have no trouble finding a spot.
What the need is: the need is having an app that gives students the opportunity to look at what lots on campus have spots available so they don’t waste their time driving around.
What the need is not: this will not solve problems with students not being able to find spots nearest to where they live or commute in from. This will just make it easier for students to effectively plan where they will park.
Why the need exists: this need exists because the University of Florida is growing at a very fast rate due to moving up in the rankings and bringing in more out of state students.
Alternative explanations: Some people will just not use an app because they already have a system for parking an don’t feel like changing.

  1. William,
I found this assignment particularly interesting as it forced me to realize that not all people are going to be interested in my product. With the data collected from these interviews we as entrepreneurs can see where we can improve to allow our product to reach a larger market. Your product is sure to change many peoples situations on parking for the better.

  2. William,
It looks like the feedback you received was pretty detailed and that the people you interviewed gave you a good reason as to why or why not the app appealed to them. The detail provided seemed to give you a clear line of people who would and wouldn't use the app. I personally have experienced many problems with parking and living off campus I think this would be very useful to me. I do not like wasting time looking for parking and thats why I know I would benefit from this app.
